“We the People 2.0” coming to Newport
November 18, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Responsible Growth * NE Washington brings the film “We the People 2.0” to Newport with a complimentary screening at the Pend Oreille Playhouse at 236 South Union Avenue, on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
This documentary, presented by Tree Media and the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF), tells the story of people across the U.S. who have faced decades of environmental assaults – such as fracking and (sewage) sludging on farmland – and what they are doing about it.
The film shares how they are working with CELDF and organizing to stop these assaults in their own communities through rights-based laws, and what they are doing about it.
Communities are joining across states to advance democratic and environmental rights, building the next citizens’ movement through Community Rights and Rights of Nature.
Events and circumstances that always seemed to be somewhere else are threatening to come to Newport in the form of PacWest Silicon Smelter. This film will be an opportunity to learn about planning our own community’s future.
A special guest from CELDF for Q & A follows the film.
The views of the guest and program are not necessarily the views of the Pend Oreille Playhouse or management.WTP-CELDF-Poster-17×22
